Cruise the Danube with Emerald Waterways

What's happening?

Board the Emerald Dawn in Nuremberg, Germany, to begin your deluxe Danube River cruise for guests ages 13 and up. Cruise one of the world’s most romantic rivers on a fascinating journey through Old Europe, including stops in scenic Kelheim and Regensburg, a city known for its preserved medieval architecture. Continue on to Passau to stroll its quaint streets and marvel at the 13th-century Veste Oberhaus, once a military and state prison. Board the ship and sail on to Melk, an Austrian city famous for its beautiful Melk Abbey. Walk the halls of this centuries-old Benedictine abbey, an elaborately adorned glimpse into the past framed by Italian architecture and ornate ceiling frescos. Continue to Durnstein through the picturesque Wachau Valley, a vast expanse of lush vineyards, rolling hills and ancient fortresses.

Your next stop is Vienna, “The City of Music,” where a sightseeing coach tour promises stunning views of the famous Burgtheater, Vienna State Opera, Hofburg Palace and Town Hall. Gaze upon the majesty of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the official seat of the Archbishop of Vienna.

The Old Town of Bratislava awaits you on Day 6 with a tour through the city’s historical district. See awe-inspiring sights including the gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral and the rococo-style Mirbach Palace. Next, get a taste of village life during afternoon tea hosted by a local Slovakian family.

On Day 7, enjoy your choice of 2 exciting excursions in Budapest. Travel to Castle Hill to tour Fisherman’s Bastion, or see the 700-year-old Matthias Church and the Szechenyi Chain Bridge — the immense suspension bridge that links Buda and Pest over the Danube River. Complete your scenic river cruise with a traditional Hungarian dinner accompanied by an entertaining folklore performance aboard the Emerald Sun.

What we love:
• Vienna is the former home to some of history’s most celebrated classical musicians, including Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn and Brahms.
• Bratislava is the only national capital that can claim a shared border with 2 independent countries: Hungary and Austria.
• A few of Budapest’s attractions, including the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter and Andrassy Avenue, are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
