Live on IPR: NY Philharmonic Performs Bernstein in Ann Arbor

What's happening?

On Nov. 19, the New York Philharmonic will perform at the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. The concert is hosted by the University of Michigan's UMS and will be broadcast live on Classical Interlochen Public Radio.

The broadcast is part of a three-part concert series by the New York Philharmonic at the Hill Auditorium and celebrates the centennial of Leonard Bernstein's birth. The program for the concert on the 19th will include Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 3 “Kaddish”, narrated by Jeremy Irons. Leonard Slatkin will conduct. The performance will also feature the University Musical Society Choral Union, which will be directed by Interlochen alumnus Scott Hanoian (IAA 92-95, IAC 92, 94, IAC St 95-98).

Fifteen Interlochen Alumni currently play in the New York Philharmonic, including Ethan Bensdorf (IAC 95-00, 02), Anthony McGill (IAC 91, 93, IAA 94-96, IAC St 96), Kuan Cheng Lu (IAA 96-98, IAC 97) and Roger Nye (IAA 80-82). Another alumnus, Matthew VanBesien (IAC 87), is the president of the University Musical Society and former executive director of the New York Philharmonic.

The broadcast will begin at 2 p.m. EDT. with a pre-concert show by IPR hosts highlighting several of the Interlochen alumni playing in the New York Philharmonic. The performance will begin at 3 p.m. If you wish to attend the performance in person or attend another concert in the series, you can purchase tickets at https://ums.org/performance/new-york-philharmonic/.
